Protein Visualiser in UE4

UTS Engineering student Matthew Barrett has recently completed his capstone project on molecular visualisation, and is now rendering PDB (Protein Data Bank) data in the Data Arena using Unreal Engine. Throughout 2021, Matthew has worked on a gallery-style display, with 3 separate protein "stations" positioned around the theatre.

As you enter the Data Arena and scan a QR code on screen, a control interface allow users switch to one of 10 different proteins, rotate the displayed model, and adjust parameters such as atom scale etc.

Images on this page document the work in progress over the past few months, and we'll publish a new page in our Projects section soon, detailing more on Matthew's fantastic work.
