Collective Visions is a collaborative + interactive screen experience. Generative AI helps people design visions of a "desirable climate future". Directed by audience members, AI-generated images appear on the Data Arena screen. An expanding collage was built over five days—a growing collective-vision of a rich, diverse, and possible climate futures. The experience ran as an active exhibition for Climate Action Week 2024 (13–18th May) and is still available to be viewed in the Data Arena.
Collective Visions aims to demonstrate the power of collective intelligence. The possible futures envisioned are formed by the collective imagination of the visitors to the Data Arena -- but they are also much more: they are built from images and artwork (created by thousands of people) which trained the Artificial Intelligence system. The futures in here, and "out there", come from many human minds working together.
Users participate with their smartphone. To start, users scan a dynamic QR code on display in the Data Arena. The code leads to website which invites the user to enter text which describes a desirable climate future. In about ten seconds, an image is generated & returned to the phone's display. Clicking "submit" sends the image to the Data Arena screen, or clicking "back" lets the user adapt their description and try again. Over 5 days, participants contributed 318 images to a constantly building collage.
