The Data Arena was delighted to host the 2026 MIF Image Competition on 15 July 2026. The Microbial Imaging Facility (MIF) is a UTS Faculty of Science (FoS) core imaging facility that provides and maintains research-grade and advanced light and fluorescence microscopes that facilitate impactful research in a wide range of microbiological, biological and biomedical applications.
The MIF Image Competition is an opportunity for students, HDRs and academic staff using the facility to showcase their incredible imaging works to the public. A friendly competition via people’s choice allowed audiences to vote for their favourite submission over a week of public showings.
Our 32K laser projection system brought out the incredible colour and detail of the submitted images, at a huge scale in the theatre. 20 people per group were immersed in the works throughout the afternoon, followed by an awards ceremony in the lobby.
To display the submissions on screen, a Google Slides presentation was developed by Louise Cole (MIF Director And Associate Professor) and Amy Bottomley (Senior Research Fellow) using our Data Arena template available here. Each slide is formatted to fill the entire 360º display with over 20 slides of images, videos and text in the deck.
