Stasis 360 is an adaptation of Stasis, an original 2023 work by Kenneth Lambert:
Stasis aims to be a meaningful examination of the circumstances faced by refugees and asylum seeker youths in Australia. By shedding light on the realities of displacement and prolonged detention endured by vulnerable individuals and their communities, Lambert endeavours to create empathetic experiences from disintegrated interview material. Through a series of data portraits and immersive presentation, the artist encourages viewers to contemplate the human condition through technology.

Kenneth’s vision to present these data portraits at an immense scale was realised in late 2025 with Stasis 360: an adaptation of the original work designed for the Data Arena's 360º 32K display, spatial audio system and motion capture technologies.
The 10 data portraits (visual interpretations from interviews) are distributed evenly around our 360º display, projected at their native 4K vertical resolution. Each portrait is originally concealed by an animated typographic transcript of their interview.
Utilising our Optitrack motion capture system, users wear or hold one of 8 rigid body trackers to register their live location in the theatre. As they approach each portrait, the concealment layer transitions into an immersive display of the visualisation layer. Over time, without further audience intervention, the room slowly resets back to a purely typographic experience.
Atmospheric audio was mixed in-house to take advantage of our spatial audio system and LFE capabilities to set the tone of this work.
